Day Cross-Country Skiing or Hiking Thursday Mornings
Carolyn P. has been leading a morning hike or ski on Thursdays, all are welcome. See Newsletter for details or watch Forum.
GLAC Euchre Tournament Series
At Pat & Daves. Two dates have been set already for the Euchre Series. The first will be on Saturday, January 24th. This will be an "evening" game with dinner at 5ish and then the card game after, with a break in the action for desert. The second date will be Saturday, February 14th. Yeah, take your Sweetheart to a Euchre game for Valentines Day. Time and other details TBD. Other people have expressed interest in hosting other games, so we probably will have two more after these. We will let you know as the details are worked out. The forum and newsletter will have info on locations, times, etc.
Indoor Climbing
Climbing at Climb Kalamazoo starts again on January 6 and continues every other Tuesday until mid March. Climb Kalamazoo is located on Burdick on the mall. The charge is $11 per night. A safety lesson is required for first time visitors and costs $10.
If you have not climbed for over a year, you will have to show you know how to belay or else take a refresher course. This lesson can be taken the same night or anytime you wish to visit the facility prior to your first climb. The club has some equipment and climbing shoes can be rented for $4. Email Dave M at mountainhyker@yahoo.com with questions. |

Early Info Meeting on Hawaii 2009 Trip
Sat Jan 24 at 3PM
At Dave & Pat's house. Several people have expressed interest in this trip. There will be an early info meeting for anyone who is curious. This trip will be a little "pricey" compared to other GLAC trips simply because of the length of the flights and the high cost of living in Hawaii. That being said, this may be the "best bang for the buck" you will ever get on a Hawaiian vacation.
We will look at the cost of airfares and rental cars (our biggest expenses). What activities/sites we want to do/see? How many islands in how many days? How much gear can we fly with, send ahead, or rent locally?
This meeting is before the evening Euchre game. Bring any info (brochures, maps, etc) or questions you have.

Mackinaw Island Trip
Sat Feb 6 to Sun Feb 8
Kelly M and Will T are planning this trip – always a good time. We fly from St. Ignace on Friday the 6th and be transported by horse and buggy to where we will stay on the island, the Pontiac Lodge on Main Street.
There are a couple of restaurants open and depending on the weather, different outdoor activities to participate in. We will need to be up at St. Ignace by early to mid afternoon Friday to get the flight to the island and will return on Sunday, leaving the island late morning/early afternoon (weather permitting, of course). You might plan to have the flexibility of returning on Monday if we can’t fly out and get stuck on the island.
The total cost will be approximately $200, which includes the plane ride (@$50) and lodging for 2 nights (@ $50/night), plus costs for the taxi to and from the hotel, food and gas. There will be a potluck dinner Sat night (more details to follow). You may bring x country skis on the plane and small coolers and bags; there is usually plenty of room. The weekend will be spent, skiing, snowshoeing, eating, playing games and socializing.
If you are interested in going on the trip there will be an opportunity to sign up for rooms at the December meeting.
More information will be available at the December meeting. |
