Weekend on the USSLST393 - There are still available spaces!
Fri June 19 - Sun June 21
Muskegon

Bring your bicycle and kayak and join us for a weekend of fun at this annual event! We are going to spend the weekend on the USSLST393 again this year. It's one of only two left out of over 1151 built during WWII.

Last year our group had over 30 people and everyone had fun. Only ten spots left! The Taste of Muskegon going on across the street from the ship. Bicycling all around the bay on a paved trail. Dinner/dancing cruse boat available that tours the bay.  An old movie will be played on deck Friday night. Kayak in the bay.

Cost:  $40 per person for the weekend.  Please make checks payable John Dean.  You may pay John at the GLAC meeting or mail payment to him. Breakfast of fruit, Danish, coffee and juice will be provided on Saturday and Sunday morning.

We will depart as a group at 6:00 PM sharp Friday evening, June 19th - please e-mail John at johndean3@aol.com for details. Please allow yourself sufficient time to fuel your vehicle for a 90-mile drive (one-way), use the restroom, carpool, load bicycles, etc. If you are not caravanning with our group, please let John know ahead of time. We will plan on returning Sunday or you may return at your leisure.

Hope to see you on this fun trip!

Annual Softball Game and Picnic
Fri June 26 6:30 PM
Oshtemo

To be held behind the Oshtemo Fire Station.  The Full Circle Community and the Great Lakes Adventure Club will join together for an eventful couple of hours.  Bring a dish to pass, drinks, softball gear and a lawn chair. No pressure, no strikeouts and a blind ump.  How much more fun can you ask for?  Rain date will be July 10th. E-mail him at johndean3@aol.com with questions and/or concerns.

Rafting at the East Race White Water Course
Sat June 27

JULY

Moonlight Float Trip
Sat July 18

Get your candles, glowsticks, and night lights and join us. We had about 17 boats last year and expect more this year. We will drop boats at the Liquid Therapy Canoe rental in the park before 9:00 PM. The float trip takes about 3 hours. Try to illuminate the front or back of your boat. A simple way is to put a candle in a mason jar and tape it to the end of your boat. This way the other boaters can avoid gliding into you.

Email John Dean with questions at johndean3@aol.com

Xpedition Bike Ride
Sat July 18
Chicago

Chicago bike ride, paved and dirt trails, as many miles as you want. Leave early ride until turn around time. Back to Kalamazoo by 9 PM. Contact Dave G. at climbhike@aol.com for more info.

Bike Ride from Holland to South Haven
Sat July 25

Join us on a nice bike ride from Holland Tunnel Park to Grand Haven and back. The 21- mile ride each way is on a well-paved bike trail off to the side of the main road along Lake Michigan. The ride is mostly flat and you can bring your lunch or buy it there. We do this ride a couple of times annually and everyone has a good time. We will eat lunch at a restaurant before returning. We will DEPART at 9:00 AM sharp for Tunnel Park. Contact John D. at johndean3@aol.com for carpool info - and get there early if you want to carpool.

Camping at Nordhouse
Fri Aug 21 - Sun Aug 23
Nordhouse Dunes Wilderness Area A

The group has done this outing as a group in the past few years and we’ve had a good time. We will car camp in the Lake Michigan Recreation Area National Forest campground just north of Ludington. The sites are shady and surrounded by woods, a sandy beach on Lake Michigan is nearby. There are vault toilets nearby and some modern toilets within walking distance and no showers. There is paddling on creeks, Hamlin Lake and Lake Michigan, also hiking trails, and biking. We’ll have a potluck on Saturday. Please email Brad Parsons bradparsons@charter.net with questions and to sign up.

Please send $10, to hold your spot due by June 30. The cost is for camping fees and will vary depending on the number of campers.
And Beyond...
Hawaii
Hawaii Trip
Sept - Dates TBA

Camping, backpacking, snorkeling, kayaking. This trip will be a little "pricey" compared to other GLAC trips simply because of the length of the flights and the high cost of living in Hawaii. That being said, this may be the "best bang for the buck" you will ever get on a Hawaiian vacation.

Input is appreciated and any information you may have to help Dave. Contact Dave G at climbhike@aol.com for more info.

Hilly Hundred
Fri Oct 23 - Sun Oct 25
Ellettsville, IN

50 miles both days. Cost=ride entry ($43), gas motel, camping possible. Web site www.hillyhundred.org. Further information will be available from Dave G closer to the date. Sponsored by CIBA - Central Indiana Bicycling Association
